GSR Autosport and Performance Racing Group Announce Spec Boxster Racing Partnership
LOS ANGELES, Calif., August 15, 2009 – GSR Autosport and Performance Racing Group have announced a strategic partnership to design, manufacture, and service “Spec Boxster” race cars in the Midwest. The club-level racing series (“SBOX” for PCA, “GTS2” for NASA, and “BSX/BSR” for POC/PRC) pits identically-prepared Porsche roadsters against each other in competitive events on various tracks around the country.
“The partnership between GSR and PRG will not only benefit our two companies, but the Spec Boxster community as a whole. Through our cooperative efforts, it is our intent to promote the national visibility of the growing racing series as it expands across the country, lower the cost of entry for someone new to the sport, offer service outside the traditional dealer network, and increase safety for all drivers,” says Nick Richards, President of GSR Autosport.
GSR Autosport has been involved with the Spec Boxster racing series at the track level for several years. The company currently supports a three-car race team based in Los Angeles that presently holds club-level track records at many local race circuits. When the racing team chose to expand last year, they selected Performance Racing Group to assemble their new race car builds. The decision was based on PRG’s industry reputation, and the fact that they offer more than 100 years of combined experience in the racing industry, including work with organizations such as the IRL, CART, ALMS, HSR, IMSA and SCCA.
The Spec Boxster racing series is one of the fastest growing club-level race classes, with more than one-hundred specially prepared vehicles on various race circuits nationwide. The race vehicles are all based on Porsche’s two-seat mid-engine Boxster sports car built in two different configurations—in general, “BSX” prepared models are legal for street use, while “BSR” vehicles are only designed for the track. “I’ve driven a lot of different race cars over the years and I can honestly say that the Spec Boxster has what it takes to be one of the most popular spec classes ever—the Porsches are fun, agile, predictable and the race cars have a low operating cost,” adds Richards. To meet the demand for competent assembly and maintenance services, GSR Autosport has been working closely with Performance Racing Group since last year. A custom frame-up Spec Boxster “BSR” build, on the assembly line in Indianapolis, is expected to be completed this month.
